Acappellooza 2011

have you ever had one of those whirlwind days, where it seems like you have all the time in the world but then it's like where's the day gone? today was one of those days for me. slept in, ran errands, went to ULTA just to pick up some make up I ran out of but ended up getting a free face of makeup and walked out with some new goodies. :) talked to my aunt on the phone for about an hour. I just love catching up with her, it could be the most random conversations but it doesn't matter because she would still act interested. then, realized it was already 4pm, made a mad dash to get ready for my friend, Bryan's birthday dinner at Fish Daddys.

Then, after dinner we all indulged in Acappellooza! a benefit concert of several acappella groups from A&M and other schools including, UNT, UH, OU, and yes even t.u. It was SO good! All of the money raised was donated to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and DSO Kids! All the groups sounded amazing and I even got a chance to play with my new flip camera! (see Dad, I told you it would be put to good use)  I promise to post some video and pictures soon!

but, alas it is now very late and tomorrow is a new day! can anyone say red carpet kinda sunday?! that's right the Oscars! I already have my ballot filled out with my predictions of who will win,,,do you???

"and the Oscar goes to,,,"

birthday of eternal proportions

so, in all my excitement to start this sucker i completely forgot to mention what prompted me to join the multitudes of the blog-o-sphere (hey, its better than me getting a tattoo on a bored friday night)

Today, 16 years ago I made the most important decision I will ever make. it was one night at my house, i remember my mamaw was staying with us because of her cancer treatments and such. I had been asking my parents a lot of questions dealing with God, Jesus, heaven, sin, my brother's death (heavy stuff for a 6 year old) and I remember asking my parents why they kept saying they will see Connor again some day. They told me if you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior you will spend forever and ever with Him in heaven. "To be absent from the body is to be Present with the Lord" as my mom put it. Long story short, I decided I wanted what my parents had, I wanted to see my Jesus face to face one day and so I prayed a simple, innocent prayer as only a child can but it forever marked a change in me. I remember this day as a celebration, a birth, and a promise.

"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” [Romans 10:9-13]

there are so many times when i fail, or feel insufficient, unworthy. but, that's the beauty of our God. His mercy has no limit, His love transcends no matter how dark or deep a pit we find ourselves in, God is there. In Him you will find as I have found purpose and peace.

so, i leave you with this. i am free because He died. i am broken in His name. and i have never felt more alive than when i am praising His name above all others. God is SO good.

salutations

so, this being my first blog ever you will have to forgive me as i stumble my way through this. i guess introductions are in order.

Howdy! Bonjour! Hola! Ciao! Guten Tag! Khairein! Shalom!

My name is Courtney. I like to read, cook, sing, watch classic movies. This by no means contains all of my favorites but it's a start,,,

I am addicted to several tv shows, some i'm proud of, some not so much but i still watch them shamelessly. Survivor anyone? I live with three of the best roommates a girl could have! I love antiques and anything unique  in nature. No cookie cutters for me, thank you :)

and the last factoid for this my first post, i collect quotes. I love them. I will try to end each post with one so if I don't keep me accountable. mmk?
